Community NextGen Updates

The Alabama Water Institute featured the CIROH Hub launch in a news article, spotlighting how the new platform unifies CIROH's research tools, data and community resources at hub.ciroh.org, replacing the legacy CIROH Portal and DocuHub.

Erin White and Fred Ogden invited to share an NGIAB-CCNH-NRDS demo, and Arpita Patel and Joshua Cunningham pulled together informative presentation that's available online at GitHub Repository. The presentation covers an overview of the NGIAB ecosystem, a live demo of the CCNH and NRDS tools, and a discussion on how these resources can support NOAA-OWP's mission and goals. This provided NGIAB team with good feedback and insights from the NOAA-OWP team to further align NGIAB and NRDS development with the needs of the broader water modeling and prediction community.

This update features an updated Cyberinfrastructure forms for better user experience, a fully revamped NextGen on CIROH-2i2c JupyterHub tutorial and adds featured resource carousels to Research Portal pages.

Sifan Koriche and Joshua Cunningham presented at the EWRI 2026 NextGen Workshop. The workshop covered an end-to-end exploration of the broader NextGen Framework and a hands-on session on hydrological model calibration within the NGIAB ecosystem. This update adds a new blog post covering the TEEHR cloud-based evaluation system running on CIROH Cyberinfrastructure and it's integration with the NGIAB-NRDS ecosystem.

This release deploys a new Troute restart datastream that seeds the routing-only model with initial NWM channel routing outputs, improving NextGen stream flow prediction accuracy. Contributors also delivered AMI updates for the DAILY resolution fix and added streamcommander support for ANALYSIS_ASSIM_RESTART_CHRT forcing source.

This release patches Troute restart DAILY path resolution and upgrades the integrated NGIAB image to v1.8.0, which adds SUMMA integration, a model form UI, and support for hourly/daily δHBV2. CI/CD workflows were migrated from static AWS keys to OIDC for improved security compliance.

This release patches Troute restart tooling and corrects the NRDS output time axis by adjusting t0 by one hour; an S3 reading bug was fixed and the palisade.gpkg URL was updated to the community bucket. AWS CI/CD workflows were also migrated to OIDC in adherence with CIROH's AWS policy.

This release adds two new threshold-based event detection calculated fields, improves write performance via partition filtering and additional write method arguments for non-core tables, and tunes the default Spark shuffle partition count. It also fixes two bugs affecting NWM data fetching for Hawaii and kerchunk-based file naming.

This release rebuilds ngen-cal against the latest NGIAB base image to stay synchronized with upstream NextGen model infrastructure updates and ensure compatibility with current tooling.
