NGIAB and CIROH Cyberinfrastructure Power Flash Flood Research at the 2026 Summer Institute

Ten graduate students across three teams (Don't Runoff!, FlashCast, and The Post-Processors) spent seven weeks at the 2026 Water Prediction Innovators Summer Institute advancing quantitative precipitation inputs into the NextGen Framework, using NextGen In A Box (NGIAB) and NSF ACCESS Jetstream2 allocations provided through CIROH cyberinfrastructure. CIROH Flood Inundation Mapping (FIM) Community Ecosystem: A Large-Scale Operational Flood Modeling-to-Evaluation Framework

The University of Alabama's Surface Dynamics Modeling Lab (SDML), with CIROH support, has built the CIROH FIM Community Ecosystem: an interconnected, open-source, cloud-native suite of Python tools spanning flood inundation modeling, simulation, benchmarking, and evaluation at national scale. NGIAB, NRDS, and CCNH documentation has been unified under the Community NextGen Ecosystem documentation section! CIROH Hub will continue to surface the latest documentation for NGIAB and related tools, such as newly-added documentation for rs_route.

Community FIM Ecosystem

Community FIM Ecosystem documentation has been newly added to the CIROH Hub. It offers a flood modeling-to-evaluation framework for flood inundation modeling, simulation, benchmarking, and evaluation.

Additonally, a new research testbed replicating the look of water.noaa.gov is now live at nwps.ciroh.org, providing a sandbox for experimenting with the National Water Prediction Service (NWPS) interface.

Community Hydrofabric Viewer

The Community Hydrofabric Viewer is now live, providing an interactive way to explore the CIROH Community Hydrofabric.

NGIAB-CloudInfra: 46,000 Docker Pulls!

The awiciroh/ciroh-ngen-image Docker image has surpassed 46,000 pulls! Learn more at ngiab.ciroh.org.

This release updates the model and build documentation, improves the model integration form, upgrades dHBV2.0 packages with corrected weights/config paths, and moves CASAM's van Genuchten parameters into shared static datasets. It also adds a new on-premise IT request issue template (replacing the previous On-Premise Request Form) and automates a monthly OWP master image build. Pinned to ngen commit 61c1400 and t-route commit f39b8d4.

This month's release fixes the elevation unit conversion in the Snow-17 module (#252). A new subset CLI has also been merged, adding a standalone entry point that subsets a user-provided geopackage by user-defined catchment ID.

The NRDS Visualizer has been reworked with event-driven DataStream loading, archived flowpath geometry with tiles below zoom 7, a single-file OPFS cache, retry paths, accessible names, AA-contrast tokens, a unified spinner, and 232 new tests.
